Blueberry Banana Protein Smoothie
A creamy, 5-ingredient smoothie that’s packed with fresh fruit & protein! It’s the perfect healthy way to start the day! Or as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack.
The coconut milk (from a can) really takes this smoothie to a whole new creamy level! So delicious!
I personally like this smoothie better when the fruit is frozen. It makes it even more creamy. But obviously don't skip on this recipe if all you have is fresh berries and banana to put in. It'll still work just fine!
I buy my bananas fresh, peel them, cut in half, and put in a freezer zip lock baggie. Then I just take out what I need.
For the blueberries, sometimes I buy fresh and then freeze them. Or buy them already frozen. Either way works.
Frozen fruit is perfectly fine (if not better) to buy as it's typically picked and frozen at its peak ripeness and freshness. Just in case you were wondering if buying frozen fruit still had all the benefits versus fresh fruit.
Ingredients:
6 - 8 ounces liquid (unsweetened vanilla almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, water)
¼ cup coconut milk, from a can, full fat or light
½ banana, frozen (could use fresh also)
½ cup blueberries, frozen (could use fresh also)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
(Optional) 3-5 ice cubes
Directions
- Place all items in a blender. Add the scoop of protein as one of the last ingredients. If it goes in first, it tends to clump at the bottom.
- Blend until well mixed. Enjoy!
TIPS: Before using canned coconut milk, leave it in the fridge overnight or for several hours to thicken. It makes the shake very creamy! Feel free to swap the coconut milk for another healthy fat of choice like flaxseeds, nut butter, etc.
